2024/KW29 Touch World Cup 2024 | Joëlle
This journey started back in November 2023, when I received a call I was honestly
not prepared for. Rebecca offered me to join the touch switzerland crew as assistant coach for the mixed open team. It took me a good 4 weeks to think about that role, what it meant, what it would take, what it would required. And it is full of doubts that I accepted, only thinking of all the positives that this experience could bring: for me, for the club, for touch switzerland.
Day 1
We are discovering the premises. Celebrating the opening ceremony. And already playing the first world cup game.
Day 2
we are seeing some very inspiring teams, styles, culture. We are also playing against new countries, that we have never played before, and most probably will never play again.
Day 3
Getting back on earth. The theory versus the practice. We would need 30 weeks of training with the australian coach instead of 3. Personally, I feel that I know nothing. Or worse, what I thought I knew is actually wrong. A crucial key seems to be the speed in the open category.
Day 4
The basic skills are letting us down. Incorrect roll ball. Not square. Over the mark. Lost control. Ball to ground. Forward pass. Need to go back to the clubs and level up.
Day 6
Final game day for the swiss mixed open team. It has been a tough day on the pitch. And an emotional day off the pitch with the week debrief and the first goodbyes.
